Harvest Some Fun at Local Farmer's Markets
With the end
of summer and the start of fall, residents and visitors alike know it's time
to hit the area's Farmer's Markets. Not only does locally grown produce cut
down on the transportation costs for imported fare, but when you buy local,
you know it's going to be good.
Our summer time harvest of peaches and nectarines (available through August) yield to a large variety of locally grown apples that are fresh for the picking in the early fall. Local farmers also grow tasty tomatoes, sweet corn, blackberries, cucumbers, green beans, and squash and make them available fresh from the farm to you.
The Charlottesville Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 7 a.m. until noon at the parking lot on Water Street. Other markets and orchards can be found in Nelson, Madison, Orange, Fluvanna, Scottsville, and Louisa. A complete list of the state's farmer's markets can be found by clicking here.
