Fluvanna County, Virginia

The natural beauty of Fluvanna County is superseded only by the concern of
its citizens for protecting it, and as a result the county is both forward
thinking and comprehensive in its efforts to maintain a superior quality of
life for all residents.
The area that is now Fluvanna County was originally part of one of the shires of the Virginia Colony. Subsequent divisions of that shire resulted in the territory changing jurisdictions through the years until 1777 when the borders were established for Fluvanna County. The Heritage Trail and the village of Palmyra continue to attract visitors from around the world who come to learn about the lives of the early Colonists.
Diversity in housing is one of the key focus areas for Fluvanna County, and
the county takes pride in ensuring both historic preservation and appropriate
land use, complete with a variety of new housing in designated growth areas.
The
popularity of the area, spurred in part by some of the best pricing values
in central Virginia has made it one of the fastest growing counties in Virginia,
a trend that county officials and community leaders have taken seriously by
working together to develop and implement a series of plans to ensure a slower,
more controlled growth that recognizes the need for adequate infrastructure
and environmental protection.
Lake Monticello, a private gated community, has contributed substantially to the growth of Fluvanna County. This 3,500- acre community of 11,000 residents surrounds a 350-acre man-made lake.
Growth can also be seen in the Zions Crossroads area which is adjacent to Interstate 64. Just this past year a Lowes store, Best Western and IHOP have opened, and a Walmart is in the plans. This area is designated for commercial growth and will be a great convenience to all living in Fluvanna County.
