Savor our agricultural heritage at Local Apple Harvest Festivals
If you're anywhere near this part of Virginia during the fall months, you
absolutely must sample the bounties of our local orchard harvests during the
many Apple Festivals located throughout the area. Apple Festivals also are
the perfect time to pick your own Red and Golden Delicious, Stayman, York,
Winesap, Mutsu Fuji, Granny Smith and Empire apples - the pride and joy of
Virginia orchards and far more enjoyable than picking them off your grocer's
shelves.
With stunning fall foliage offering its glorious backdrop on our pristine
mountain landscape, apple harvest festivals are the place to be. Featuring
live entertainment, arts and crafts, hay rides, horseback riding and incredible
food and drink, you just can't miss the Graves
Mountain Apple Harvest Festival, taking place two weekends: October 10
and 11 and October 18 and 19 in Syria.
Another festival worthy of note is the Flippin-Seaman Apple Butter Festival on October 4 and October 18th, where you can watch members of the Flippin and Seaman families hard at work mixing the original family recipe in traditional copper kettles. With plenty of live entertainment and family fun, the Apple Butter Festival celebrates another Virginia tradition.
If that's not enough to get you craving a cinnamon apple tart, hit the biggest event of the year at the Carter's Mountain Orchard - where you'll find apple cider, apple doughnuts, apple pie - everything apple, apple, apple! Craft and food vendors line the historic orchard grounds for two weekends, October 4-5 and October 18-19, with a Country Store stocked to the rafters with glorious Carter Mountain apples. Be sure to arrive early as lines form to grab their mouth-watering apple-cider doughnuts!
