Louisa county was named for Princess Louisa, the youngest daughter of King George II of England and his wife Queen Caroline. After local Indian tribes moved on and settlers managed their way into this difficult interior region of the state, the county was founded in 1742.
Louisa County has a rich history, and its location placed it in the path of both the Revolutionary and Civil War action. Jack Jouett made his famous 40 mile ride from the Cuckoo Tavern to Charlottesville to warn Thomas Jefferson and other members of the Virginia General Assembly that the British were coming. During the War Between the States, the largest cavalry battle occurred at Trevillians in Louisa County.
Today Louisa County still has many lovely homes from the 18th and 19th centuries, making it a sought after area for real estate buyers who are interested in historic homes.
The Town of Louisa serves as the county seat, and numerous unincorporated communities within the county offer new housing developments, vacant land on wooded lots, and numerous farms and agricultural properties. Several new subdivisions are being constructed throughout Louisa County. Spring Creek, the gated golf course community is conveniently located at Zion CrossRoads, home to Louisa County's up and coming shopping district.
